Work includes all FRA required class time, supervised hands-on training, class materials and filings with the FRA to keep Buzzi in compliance and reduce its insurance premiums. Helena Chemical Crossing Safety Audits, Improvements and Safety Manual
RII assisted this global chemical company after a major crossing incident involving one of its facilities in Florida. RII investigated the crossing involved plus several other railroad crossings within Helena Chemical’s vast system to address potential safety and liability risks. These efforts resulted in additional safety signage and structures at some crossings. Most notably, RII was able to negotiate with CSX to have a fully gated and signaled crossing system installed at Helena’s highest risk location, almost completely at CSX’s cost – a win-win mitigation for all parties involved. RII also developed a Safety at Crossings presentation that Helena added to its Safety Manual to help prevent future incidents.
Martin Marietta Materials Safety Audits
RII performed safety audits on 5 rail-served facilities for this global aggregate producer to minimize liability and reduce incidents within the company. Work included inspection of each facility for track condition, right of way and safety procedures, as well as operations safety, rules and employee follow through. Meetings were conducted with employees and management to learn about common issues and documents on incidents were reviewed. The audits resulted in amendments to operating and safety procedures, changes in reporting procedures, new facility signage and training.
FRA Compliance Audit for Blackwell Northern Shortline
RII was called in to audit a shortline railroad operating track owned by the state of Oklahoma found to be deficient in several FRA requirements. RII inspected the entire facility, including track condition, equipment and documentation, employee records, safety rules and operation rules for safety compliance and developed a plan for bringing all deficiencies and filings into compliance within the week.
